UCLA TFT PRESENTS THE FIRST-EVER UCLA DESIGN SHOWCASE WEST SALONS

The UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television has created the first-ever UCLA Design Showcase West Salons, a series of conversations with distinguished costume designers and production designers from hit Apple TV+ and Netflix shows. These professional salons take place over three days in June and will be streamed online for students, faculty, the professional community and guests. RSVP at legacy.tft.ucla.edu/dsw-salons/ to receive the link to the panels.

On Saturday, June 20, costume designer and UCLA TFT Distinguished Professor Deborah Nadoolman Landis moderates the Apple TV+ Costume Designers Salon featuring panelists John Dunn (Dickinson), Jill Ohanneson (For All Mankind) and Trish Summerville (See). On Saturday, June 27, costume designer and UCLA TFT professor Chrisi Karvonides-Dushenko moderates the Netflix Costume Designers Salon featuring Michelle Cole (#blackAF), Beth Morgan (Glow) and Justine Seymour (Unorthodox). On Sunday, June 28, art director, production designer and UCLA TFT Lecturer Denise Hudson (The Kominsky Method) moderates the Apple TV+ Production Designers Salon featuring Naaman Marshall (Servant), John Paino (The Morning Show) and Mark Worthington (Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet). All panels take place at 10:00 a.m. PST.

Each June, UCLA TFT presents Design Showcase West National Portfolio Review, the only national entertainment design showcase on the West Coast. This year, UCLA TFT, with its guild partners, presents the industry’s next generation of exceptional designers inside the Design Showcase West Student Gallery, Class of 2020. This digital exhibition launched June 16, 2020 at www.designshowcasewest.com and features 2020 graduates from the nation’s top university design programs. The Student Gallery is a must-visit for professionals seeking talent.

“Design Showcase West is where the present — distinguished professionals — meet the future — talented graduates,” says Professor Landis. “For the first time, our groundbreaking professional salons allow students and graduates all over the world to participate in DSW. From Hollywood to home, leaping borders and boundaries, our panels are mini-master classes in design. We are so proud to inaugurate and to host this marvelous event made possible by Apple TV+ and Netflix.”
